Fondazione Antonio Ratti

The Fondazione Antonio Ratti was established in 1985 at the behest of its creator and inspirer, Antonio
Ratti
, to transform his profound passion for art and fabric into an active entity in the world of culture. Its
purpose, as defined in its articles of association, is the promotion of initiatives, research and studies of
artistic, cultural and technological interest in the field of textile production and contemporary art.
Through the foundation, scholars, artists and intellectuals have the opportunity to deepen their research,
to produce new works, and to reach the public, the critics and the institutions.

In 1995 the foundation contributed to the creation of the “Antonio Ratti Textile Center” at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
.

In 1998 it inaugurated the “Museo Studio del Tessuto” (Textile Studio Museum): to date it has collected more than 3,300 individual textile exhibits and over 2,500 sample books that illustrate the history of fabrics from the 3 rd to the 20 th century. In 2007 the collections, which are open to the public, were recognised by the Italian State as being of exceptional interest.
Since 1988 the foundation has also been involved in the investigation of languages and research into the field of visual arts, with a particular focus on contemporary art.
