The Fondazione Antonio Ratti was established in 1985. The aim of Antonio Ratti, its founder and inspirer, was to instill his deep passion for art and fabrics into a foundation that would be at the service of and actively promote culture. The statutory objective of the Foundation is to promote artistic, cultural and technological initiatives, research and studies in the fields of textile production and contemporary art.
The Foundation gives scholars, artists and intellectuals an opportunity to expand their research, produce new works and reach the general public, critics and institutions.
In 1995, the Foundation contributed to the establishment of the “Antonio Ratti Textile Center” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
In 1998, the Foundation inaugurated the “Textile Studio Museum”, which currently numbers over 3,300 exhibits and more than 2,500 sample books dedicated to the history of fabrics. The Museum is open to the public. In 2007, the Italian State recognized the extraordinary value of its collections, dating from the 3rd to the 20th century.
Since 1988, the Foundation has also been involved in the research and study of the language of visual arts, with a special focus on contemporary art.
